I woke up today to this! J.K. Rowling sharing our Real Girls Rock ad.
She and her 14 million X followers gave us some nice lift off for the film.
My response: Think of it as a short film and not an ad. Then it feels less weird. That was our intention. And think of the brand as not just a brand but a way to influence culture. Thank you.
In less than two days we’re at over 8 million views. With zero paid media.
That’s quite a hack.
I’d almost forgotten this is my wheelhouse. I did it for 2 decades at Levi’s. Now I do it for myself.
I’d gone to bed last night a little meh. Nothing bad. The film didn’t get the out of the gate start I’d hoped for, I felt like I was letting my team down and I was pretty sure we were shadow-banned on Instagram (despite Zuck’s new found anti-censorship/pro-America stance). And we were definitely being pummeled on TikTok with almost zero views after a day! What??
At some point during the day, I figured why not ask? I mean JK might not see my lowly tweet, and it might seem kind of desperate, but you gotta try. So I tweeted this:
No response.
Later, I put myself to bed, still meh.
But I thought: We make our own luck. Keep fighting.
And I woke up to at least 20 texts from friends and JK’s tweet.
We make our own luck. Keep fighting.
As you might imagine, her tweet started a cascade.
Do good work. And then, when the door opens a crack, kick it down.
That’s what I’ll be doing for the rest of the week.
Absolutely fantastic! Cheering you on and thank you for bravely speaking up for women. - girl hockey mom
So thrilled for you Jennifer! Well deserved recognition for your wonderful brand 😊
