Earlier this week I had the chance to go on the Gutfeld! show. It’s the highest rated late night talk show in 2024, outpacing CBS’s Late Show with Stephen Colbert, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, CBS' After Midnight and Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
I don’t watch late night TV. I don’t stay up that late. But it’s pretty remarkable that this show is outperforming all these others that have been leaders in this programming block for as long as I can remember.
But the woke-sters are no longer funny. And people aren’t tuning in like they used to. These hosts — like Colbert and Kimmel — are just too smug and self-satisfied and they are forgetting to actually be funny. I mean who could forget Jimmy Kimmel’s “rest in peace, wheezy!” set during covid?
“That choice doesn't seem so tough to me, Vaccinated person having a heart attack? Yes, come right in. We'll take care of you. Unvaccinated guy who gobbled horse goo? Rest in peace, wheezy.” — Jimmy Kimmel
And, then there was Stephen Colbert and his dancing vaccines when he became a propaganda arm for the CDC and Democratic Party. It’s sad! I loved The Colbert Report! back in the day. What the heck happened!? I’m not a fan of the phrase “woke mind virus” but it does seem to apply here. It’s taken hold and these guys are no longer funny. Just preachy.
Given that the Bay Area Rapid Transit system (BART), just awarded over $1 million to each of 6 employees fired for not getting vaccinated, I wonder how Kimmel and Colbert feel about these extremely un-funny, very judge-y bits now? I’m sure they stand by them or want to just forget them.
Anyway, I was on Gutfeld! The format is 4 guests, 2 of them regulars. The 3rd a comedian. And me. I’m not funny. I didn’t try to be, I figured that would not go over well.
Overall, it was a lot of fun. There’s a live audience, something I’ve not really experienced before other than for much more serious speeches. Everyone from the show was so nice. They were worried I’d be nervous and all the producers, the guests and the host sought to ease my nerves beforehand, telling me not to worry, just be yourself (ha, how!?).
Meanwhile the comedian guest was furiously preparing and scribbling and refining his jokes. I could have prepared, I guess, but what to prepare when you don’t tell jokes or even know how to?
Nevertheless, I wasn’t particularly nervous. How bad could I be, right?
Here’s my take on Harris, and her latest duality of democracy nonsense, my premise being that she isn’t stupid and that it takes quite a bit of skill to use so many words to say so little. And that saying very little is purposeful because if you say nothing, you are held to nothing.
Here’s my take on the demise of the me too movement:
And here’s my take on how American Airlines might consider sharing their new technology with the NCAA to protect women’s sports:
PS: Worth watching is the original clip of Harris’ duality of democracy ramble. I’ve not yet been able to get all the way through it. It’s just so embarrassing.
I’ll say this: Cheney looks mortified. Her face seems to say: please get me out of here.
Liz, we get it. November 5th can’t come soon enough.
Jen, you were awesome! And, Very Funny!
OMG. I could not stomach the Kamala video. I had to escape after "duality".
Damn. I’m too old.. I just want leadership that will maintain the things I have that wasn’t available to my mother.
