I don't have an opinion about whether the letter is a good move or a bad move. I do have an opinion about the hostile conduct on the court. In addition to being 100% unsportsmanlike, it sets a bad example for kids and young athletes - not that most adults these days care about that. And frankly it's hard to believe that at least some of it isn't racially motivated.
I really wish they (Congress) would stay out of this. Reminds me of the circus 20 years ago when there were Congressional hearings on PED use in baseball. Roger Clemens “misremembering”. Rafael Palmeiro pointing and saying he never used them (blatant lie). Congressional representatives grandstanding to look important. I can see something like this going off the rails when you add in the racial and sexual identity implications (don’t forget that some say Clark is targeted because she’s heterosexual - incorrect IMO). Frankly, the best way to put an end to this is hire competent officials, period. For quite awhile, they have been poor - not just with the mayhem, but missing things like blatant traveling calls that aren’t. Lastly, my take on why Clark is targeted, IMO…it’s the millions in endorsements. She got that rich before stepping on a WNBA court.

I wouldn't have accused players of racism, but even bad attention is good attention for the WNBA. The more people watching adult female sports, the more likely they are to encourage their girls to participate in athletics.
Girls are taking a beating in Democratic-led states where boys beat them while the government, schools and sporting bodies use compelled and coerced speech to force girls and parents to call those boys girls. Girls are already choosing not to invest the decade of effort it takes to become excellent at a sport. When any mediocre male can bump you off the team and take your wins and your scholarships, it's obvious to kids and teens that it's not worth it to strive to be the best that you can be in sport.
What we need from Congress is a federal reaffirmation of the reality of sex and the importance of sex in law and policy. We either have a female category of sport, or we don't. When males are on a female team, by definition it's co-ed. Make your local blue state school stop lying.
The Supreme Court Justices' questions from the 1/13/26 West Virginia v BPJ (06/30/2026 decision) indicate that even they think that a girly boy is actually a girl. We need federal legislation to clarify that changing your body to mimic the opposite sex does not mean you have changed your sex. Once the law is clear on the fact that human beings cannot change sex, fewer children and youth will be drawn to destroy their endocrine and reproductive systems. Transgender ideology is killing our youth, especially gay and lesbian kids.
If Democrats come back to power, they will reinstate male rights above female, even in red states. This legislation has to happen now while you know who is still in office.

Anytime government steps in there will be controversy. There were enough negative comments towards the league officials and referees to hopefully reduce the occurrence of similar actions. The should have waited to see if it escalated to official government warnings.

I feel like CC is in a lose/lose situation. She’s been playing in an integrated game for her whole sports lifetime, and you never hear her say anything about race, or sexual orientation. The reffing isn’t great, but my bet is they don’t get paid as well as NBA refs, and there are less teams with work, in fewer cities. I wish they’d just stuck with the theme of bettering reffing without singling out CC, but it was only when Social Media picked it up that they reviewed it at all, since the incident “wasn’t noticed” by refs that night. The Players, Refs, Coaches and Front Offices simply can’t grasp the “rising tide lifts all boats” theory, you only have to watch any Fever game, including last night’s Las Vegas Game to see hundreds of kids wearing #22 Fever Jerseys. Just as the Norway team inspired little kids to pick up a soccer ball, they will pick up CC’s Wilson Ball, just like Tom Hanks! This is the deal. Caitlin Clark moves like a dancer, a Barishnikov, on the basketball court. She scores 3 pointers and 2 pointers that seem impossible. It is not about color, ethnicity or anything else but superior coordination and understanding of the physics of the basketball in the air. This is remarkable that female players have achieved the 3 pointer dunk. Women are shorter and have smaller hands, shorter arms. As you've said many times, Jennifer, high level sports is not about "inclusion." It is about the best rising to the top. CC's opponents need to study her choreography, because for her, it's about the game. It is her complete focus on the hoop, the physics and the ball, along with the steps and dribbling. She can shift sideways, backwards, diagonal and sprint forwards, creating that channel towards the hoop. It's similar to soccer phenom, Erling Haaland, whom I am inordinately proud of, as an American with Norway roots. It is not just power, it's the ball and the choreography. Similar in ways to the unique physics of women's and girls' gymnastics. We watch the focus and the beauty of the movement. For a dance lesson, here's Baryshnikov with Natalya Makarova, shortly after she defected, in Other Dances, with the pianist playing Chopin on the stage. Choreographed for them in 1976, when she defected, couple years after Mikhail. I'm so old that I remember this. Caitlyn is the Natalya Makarova of basketball.

As for a racial component, search youtube for Alyssa Thomas' egregious, flagrant foul on Angel Reese (black). As Reese was high in the air for a rebound, Thomas grabbed her by the throat, throwing her onto her back with the back of her head bouncing on the floor. Violent and dangerous. Or Thomas going for superstar Candace Parker's surgically repaired ACL tear. Thomas is not alone with her dirty play. To dispel the racial scenario, a white player also comes to mind. Until the WNBA gets serious with first a suspension and then longer suspensions for repeat offenders, these attacks will continue.

When a crime is committed, such as a battery, far in abeyance of the regularly accepted and enforced rules of the game, it first falls on the sport's governing body to adjudicate the incident and mete out corrective action.
If that is not done, then it falls to Law Enforcement to act when an assault and battery occurs. When a crime is documented on camera, it becomes easily prosecutable.
Whether it should or will be, then becomes the question.
Initially it likely has little or nothing to do with race (or Congress).
Now the DOJ, that is another ball of wax. Battery in a professional contest would not fall under Federal authority. However, there is a very remote potential (as I see it) for a Civil Rights violation contest on behalf of the victim. That would make it Federal. So I can sort of see what these Congressional leaders are doing.
It would be very interesting to read a good Prosecutor's commentary on this entire situation.
I mean, if one of the assailants is convicted of a crime against another player, that subsequently swings the civil litigation door wide open for a judgement to raid the criminal's assets in a damage compensation scenario.
That would likely not help the victim's professional career though.

The issue I have with allowing the league to police their own, is they have ZERO self interest in policing this. Viewership of Clark’s games are definitely fueled by watching her amazing skills on the court. But I guarantee you there’s also a small contingent of viewership who tune in much like watching wrestling or Indy; just waiting for the jump off the top rope, or the crash in turn 4. If flagrant fouls boost viewership, there’s not much incentive to prevent them. Teams have to be held accountable by someone, and so far, they appear reluctant to do anything if it’s not widespread across the league.
