I’m so tired of these feckless people in top-tier positions. There are so many of them out there. Just vacuous bureaucrats there to play the political game, and when the harshness of reality hits, they take their fat earnings and leave. What a joke things have become.

Sadly I think it’s most

Elroy's avatar

Agreed. I can attest that it’s rampant in the corporate world, and the E.S.G. and CEI-scoring made it systemic. I don’t know how things are ever going to come back to performance/merit based.

Ten comments and I'm the first to say "THEY OUGHTA HIRE YOU JENNIFER!" Or at the very least ask you for a list of candidates.

Jordan grew the NBA

Gretzky grew the NHL

You had Mantle and Marris,

Now we have Clark and Cunningham.

AND I DON'T EVEN FOLLOW SPORTS MUCH!

Duh...

I've felt that she should have been even before CC became a pro. Mainly because of her handling of officials and refusal to upgrade them, instead fining and penalizing any coach or player who dares be critical of them or her. She's not only tone deaf to players, but media and fans as well. Good riddance...can't come soon enough

Excellent! 🎯🎯🎯 If CC & SC become coaches, I’ll DEFINITELY be watching again. I do not give a care what color their skin is…what I do care about is the “content of their character”. As a side note, how about DNA testing all the “gals” in the wnba.

Richard Parker's avatar

I'm pretty darn sure that men already play in the WNBA (sic).

Sad_Mom's avatar

Is this comment about intersex players in the WNBA? Is that for real? I’m asking genuinely.

LAURA LEE's avatar

I believe there are men already playing in the wnba which is the reason why they can’t define what a woman is.

holly.m.hart's avatar

Men who claim to be women (so-called transgender) are not "intersex". "Intersex" is an outdated term for individuals who have any one of over 40 Disorders of Sexual Development. Every individual with a Disorder of Sexual Development is either a male or a female. A male with a Disorder of Sexual Development is not a female, no matter how much his DSD has made him appear to be different in some respects than other males. He still goes through male puberty and has the physical advantages that men have over women when it comes to athletics.

What’s the evidence for that?

Your shot at paid consulting was dead on. At least from major consulting firms. They basically provide a screen for leadership incompetence, weakness, or both.

It’s about time she left. Caitlin Clark is the major reason for the growth of the league. I’m a player from 50 plus years ago. Learned how to play from Reds Klotz who’s in basketball hall of fame, and I never watched wnba until Caitlin started. She’s amazing. I’ve never seen so many 3 pointers hit in a game. The American coach in FIBA had her on the bench as she played older players. Caitlin went in and the stands erupted when they played China. She scored 14 points 11 assists. Why do you hate the player that’s driving the money?

Jennifer Sey's avatar

She’s not the star the other players want.

Jill Feldbaum's avatar

If you watch her warmups her ball handling skills are incredible! And her passing and defense are amazing as well. They have a treasure!

Infamous Kitteh Mama's avatar

Because she's white. Somebody has to say it.

Jill Feldbaum's avatar

I know it’s so stupid! I watched how she was treated by other players after the game against China. It’s absurd!

Richard Parker's avatar

The WNBA plays with a smaller ball than any men's league does. Smaller ball helps a lot with 3's.

Mike's avatar

And I assume the woman’s hands are also a lot smaller. What’s your point?

Richard Parker's avatar

It's not the same game.

I don't think hatred has anything to do with playing time. In fact, CC had about 10 minutes more court time than any of the 3 US starting guards. Likewise Paige Bueckers had 5 min more than the older guards. I expect the coach wanted to give the older 5 starters some playing time and then turn the game over to the youngun's. Also remember that CC spent most of last season injured. This season CC has had back issues and Bueckers has missed time with knee problems. With 3 FIBA games in 4 days, the staff will be watching the amount of playing time each player has.

There are two kinds of consultants:

1. “Doers” who you basically hire like temps because you have a big discrete project like an IT rollout that requires lots of people, but you don’t want them on your payroll.

2. “Thinkers” who don’t really think any better than the execs who hire them, who don’t understand the businesses they advise, but who will provide cover for decisions that management knew along needed to be made.

In the midst of the squandered, massive opportunity by the delinquent commissioner, it was also disappointing last year when Caitlin kowtowed to the racial narrative bullies across the League’s leadership, ownership, media, and players.

Thomas Wemlinger's avatar

There is absolutely nothing to be gained from apologizing for so-called "white privilege." I hope Caitlin Clark realizes that now.

You touched on it briefly, but it sounds like every major corporate boardroom and CEO in the world. And that can be said for union leadership too. All about the top without really doing anything but inflict damage.

Jen your words are so true in every respect. Who will succeed Engelbert - and will that person “do the right thing”? The fact of the matter - Englebert should exit sooner than later and her successor that represents a sharp and necessary break should step in.

This is what I don't get about players' resentment of Caitlin Clark. She has a fast dribbling style, turning on a dime, mental awareness of where teammates are for passes and that flawless 3 pointer shooting skill set. Why aren't the players examining every training strategy, every strength building regime, every choreography of directional changes, micro fakes and charge into the open channel which Clark's workouts produce? So many of the players on opposing teams appear to be doing the bull-in-the-china-shop routine. The way CC played under and through the floppy moves of the ultra tall Team China player recently is a case in point.

Infamous Kitteh Mama's avatar

Because CC is white. That's why.

Eric F. ONeill's avatar

And when CC is permanently injured by the thugs, the WNBA will return to the utterly useless money loser it has historically been.

I started to write "she did see the league grow, but then didn't know what to do with it."

But then I read the whole Post, and you said it all much better.
