This was never going to be easy. So many thought Trump was going to come in, do some executive orders, pass some legislation and life would be good. Things are where they are because no one likes confrontation, and it’s easier to send someone money and hope they fix it. This is going to be Thunderdome…two views enter but only one will emerge. Prepare accordingly.

The trans issue helped take down half of the duopoly last fall. Trump will destroy the other half. What we need to do is get ready for the emergence of a truly functional third party. Not one of the parties in left wing la-la-land. Not one in religious-right wing hell-for-women. Not Libertarian since they just want to cut government. But a centrist party that brings the best of the left and right together.

The problem is that as soon as Democratic politicians realize all they have to do is claim to support women's rights again, disaffected Dems, especially women, will come running back into their arms. They'll keep the gravy train coming from the transitioning profiteers for another year or so, then start “evolving” as Gavin Newsom has been pretending. He's perfectly fine with putting male convicted rapists into female prisons, but he's starting to express some feels for the plight of women athletes. When he runs for president in 2028, he'll claim he pivoted way back in 2025 and women will flood him with campaign donations and votes for pretending he cares about us.

Thank you for your response. I agree with your idea of a functional third party and have for quite a while. I’m not as convinced about Trump doing a whole lot more than he already has, or really going after the trans issue. It depends upon how much he’s pushed. He chases many squirrels and is easily distracted.

I wish I was as convinced as you that a lot of D women would move to a centrist party. So many of those women that I see believe what they see in the media about there being no real differences between women and the transitioned. Unless it actually affects their families they don’t see, and even then so many just look down and murmur something about fairness. Most of the R women don’t really want the confrontation. They don’t want to be ostracized by their Facebook groups or social circle.

My daughter and I have been fighting this battle in the world of competitive powerlifting for a while now, even before it exploded with the swimming issue. There has been moderate success but it’s come after pushing back hard and not taking any feelings into consideration. I’m happy to see women like yourself coming into the fray with ideas. Thank you.

Many of us have been fighting men pretending to be women for decades. Gay men in drag have insulted us for as long as I can remember with caricatures of what it is to be a woman. That creepy porn imagery of drag queens is exactly what a male mind would envision because that's what many men think of women.

I've helped numerous girls escape the clutches of gender ideology simply by being the lone voice who said it's perfectly fine to be a lesbian, that they can look forward to falling in love and creating a happy, healthy family. So far, every girl I've worked with has chosen to find her own true, authentic self without poisoning her body or chopping off her breasts. Which, by the way, has to be one of the most self hating things a woman can do to her body.

I do this work because I was blessed to have parents who "affirmed me" for who I was. I'm glad you and your daughter are fighting on the same side of this battle. Keep up the good fight. More people are joining us every day.

Women fought hard for the rights they have. As a woman I would be happy to fight for a third category for transgenders. Why must they encroach on what women have fought hard for. Men are men. Women are women. And, transgenders are transgenders. Fight for a third category as women fought for a second.

Mariah Burton Nelson's avatar

Hi Lori, the thing is: people who identify as transgender are still men or women. They have an identity (akin to a religion or political identity or personality type) they have chosen called trans or non-binary or queer or lots of other things. But they’re still men or women and it’s important to remember that. As for providing them with another category, When you think about it, what you realize is that the men would still win. So then the men would win the men’s division, the men would win the trans division, and the women would win only one of the three – if the men kept out of that one. This is already happening with a non-binary category at some marathons. And if you try to fix that problem by creating two new categories, one for males and one for females who identify as transgender… Then they might as well just compete in the proper sex category like everybody else has to.

Not a fix IMO. What do secondary sex characteristics have to do with it? It falls to chromosomes as I understand it. Does castrating a male take away his biological advantage?

I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to but here is some scientific data.

Rarely, a human is born with a disorder of sexual development (DSD) in which an individual does not have the normal genetics of male or female. It is estimated that DSD occurs in 1 in 5000 live births. The DSD most relevant to the issue of fairness for females in sports is complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS). This individual is genetically male but with cells that do not respond to testosterone and testicles which remain (undescended) in the abdomen. As a newborn this baby appears to be a girl with a vagina and labia, and without a penis or external testes. This disorder is rare, affecting 2-5 per 100,000 live births. CAIS is the only DSD in which a genetic male would not have the significant physiologic advantage of male puberty, although non-testosterone related male advantage is retained. Discussion remains ongoing as to the appropriate policy related to competition by CAIS athletes.

Sex is the single most important determinant of athletic performance

Genetic sex is the dominant factor in the development of a body’s capacity for athletic performance. The performance gap between males and females becomes most significant at puberty and ranges from 10-50% depending on the sport.

Testosterone suppression does not level the playing field

After one year of testosterone suppression for males there are some physiologic changes.Thigh muscle mass is reduced by 9% but still remains 16% higher compared to females. Reduction in muscle strength is typically 5%. In the longest follow-up study published, males with 14 years of testosterone suppression remain 20% stronger and have 20% greater heart and lung capacity than females. Male advantage is not erased even with over a decade of testosterone suppression.

The persistence of male advantage in trans athletes is further supported by research on how exercise reduces the effects of testosterone suppression. However, in what is well studied in the medical field, low- to moderate-intensity resistance and aerobic training will increase muscle strength in these men, although no difference was identified in muscle mass.

Transgender individuals cannot become the opposite sex

Individuals are born with genetics that cannot be changed. Sex is immutable. Medical therapy to suppress testosterone will impact the body but does not make a male into a female or level the athletic playing field. Puberty blocking medications in boys will limit the growth of the penis and scrotum, decrease the growth of facial and body hair, and prevent deepening of the voice. However, puberty blocking medications will not change the genetics of that individual or eliminate the physiologic advantages of being male which are unrelated to testosterone. Scientific data is not yet available on the athletic performance capacity for individuals who as young boys were treated with puberty blockers compared to girls and women.

Fairness in competition

The science is brutally clear: no amount or duration of testosterone suppression can erase the advantage of being born male. And while many females can outperform males, at any matched level all males outperform all females.

While some may argue that the number of male athletes who identify as women (with or without testosterone suppression) is small, that does not negate the fact that fairness in sports is compromised by inclusion of these individuals in girls’ and women’s categories. As concluded by an independent think tank group in the United Kingdom, “governing bodies cannot secure both transgender inclusion and fairness for female athletes within the female category.

Unfortunately many sports still permit males, with or without testosterone suppression, to compete in the girls’ and women’s categories. Without question, this is blatantly discriminatory to females and destroys fairness in competition for them. Inclusion of males in women’s sports tells girls and women, unlike boys and men, that they are not deserving of fair competition. Such policies devalue girls and women compared to boys and men. We urge all National Governing Bodies, who have not already done so, to restore fairness for females by restricting the girls’ and women’s categories based on sex. Males who identify as girls or women can compete in a male/open category.

We view the world differently, Mary. You will need to ask someone with knowledge about castration. I have no idea. Transgender men posing as women to win medals that they are incapable of winning as biological males is absolute bullshit.

You have no idea? Do you think that if Bruce Jenner had agreed to castration, he wouldn’t have still won an Olympic Gold? Do you think that if Lia Thomas had “bottom surgery” and had his penis removed, he wouldn’t have won a medal at Paris 2024? Biological advantage falls to chromosomes, not secondary sex characteristics.

How do we view the world differently on this issue when I agree women’s sports must be protected and that sex is binary and immutable? Unless you think a lack of penis makes a man a woman and that adding a fake penis makes a woman a man.

Bruce won his gold long before his transition, Mary. He was male competing as a male and unashamed to be one at the time. What followed in his life to become a female Caitlin was a personal choice and journey that had nothing to to do with his gold medal. You want to compete as a woman? Become a woman. How through the medical protocols to transition . Once completed, if you still have the athletic talents, go for it. X X - X Y. I shouldn’t need to point out that it’s not just “trans IDing” males who do this to females. It’s everyone (male and female) who has bought into “gender ideology” that believes humans can change sex and that sex is a construct. Which I might add is the entire Democratic party, except for very recently with a couple finally breaking. How many death threats, deplatforming attempts, firings, suspensions, lawsuits and how much more bullying must girls and women be subjected to for having the courage to speak the truth before the people wake up?

And so it goes in prisons, rape crisis and domestic violence shelters.

How was this not foreseeable that certain men (but certainly not all) who wish to rape women and girls would not put their hand up and play the “trans” card, the minute we allowed them to “identify” as the opposite sex to gain access to women and girls safe spaces? Unless one is so daft to assume that society had rid itself of rapists and men who commit violence.

Whereas before women were allowed to have men removed from their safe spaces, we have lost that right in most Western Nations. So sorry, girls, you just have to deal with the fact a fully intact male is allowed to undress in your locker rooms and see you naked. And, yep, it’s okay that you have to share a hotel room with him when you’re playing a game outside your city. Men who care about women and girls need to think about this and rise up to protect female dignity and privacy rights as well as to fair play in sports.

Because the only company standing in defence of women’s rights is https://www.xx-xyathletics.com/en-ca. So if you believe in protecting women, best be supporting them.

I'm afraid this is going to be a long, hard battle. As a lifelong leftwing feminist, I am furious that this "trans" psychosis has taken over the country.

And I think that Trump's EO, while the right thing to do in theory, is only going to create a big backlash among my fellow liberals, many of whom are too blinkered to see what's at stake here and who have fallen for the trans bullshit hook, line, and sinker.

In other words, that EO is actually making it harder for us in this fight.

When -- or more accurately, IF -- we have a free presidential election again, and if a Democrat wins, it will be easy to rescind that Executive Order and issue a new one. Democrats need to wake the fuck up. Pardon my French.

People in possession of a penis shouild only compete against other people in possession of a penis regardless of what they call themselves or how they identify.

Blue states like California are doubling down and see excluding penis people from women's sports as the line than cannot be crossed as it would then lead to other "attacks" on "trans rights". They are willing to die on this artificial hill and take both the party and country down with them. This is essentially the state-sanctioned religion, and anyone who questions that is a fair game heretic.

It also has nothing to do with girls/women/females.

Removing your sexed organs doesn’t make you a member of the other sex.

This is what remains so frustrating: You’re male, you can do whatever you want to your body, but you will never become female— and female sports are for . . . Wait for it - Females.

No longer competitive after your “transition”? Too bad.

Your fellow males no longer want to compete with you because you have long hair and want to be called “Katie”? Take it up with them.

Not a single one asked to be referred to as the opposite sex.

And not a single person, male or female took their own life.

The locker room argument is so off putting to me because women and girls are in a state of undress or naked - a time when we typically feel most vulnerable.

If men don’t get it, perhaps they need to ask their heterosexual male counterparts, who wants to go into the women’s locker room and see all the naked women or women undressing? My guess is “not a single one” wouldn’t say yes.

Did Lia Thomas care about all the women he triggered when he allegedly walked around buck naked flashing his business? Did he care that 1/3 of them have been raped? Did he care about any modest or religious women who would take offence? I think not. That women think they have to be nice about this is beyond.

Thanks for this. I'm sure there's more. I heard about boys on girls' hockey teams in upstate NY, but don't have details. I know of one brave woman (there might have been more) in the Hudson Valley who quit her masters hockey team as soon as a dude over 6 foot showed up for practice. Something happened and he's now going to the men's team (with lipstick on, I guess?) and they're tolerating him. I'm so proud of that woman, as she was recently widowed also. She went back after the dude started playing where he belongs.
