1. I have always thought it was belittling to refer to grown women as girl-anything.

2. Snail-girl is doubly belittling as corporate entities don't value anyone's work life balance.

As an older woman who served an apprenticeship and moved up in a male dominated field, I feel that so many of these 'girl' terms are divisive and just a little derogatory. I never really wanted to stand out as a 'woman in my field', I just wanted to do the work as well as anyone and be successful within my own sphere. Nowadays there is this push to either 'have it all' or give in to the tides of life/whim (which may lead to going to bed in a depressive phase around noonish). Neither of these concepts or terms sum up the majority of women in the workplace- but we know how the workplace likes to label us and we will be held to and compared to and assumed to be those labels despite whatever real work we accomplish.

All we can do is keep our heads up and act professionally.

I have to admit to cringing at the term “girl boss.” I have had great bosses, both male and female, but never a “boy” or “girl.” In the last 15 years of my 50 year career, I had 3 female bosses. One was a narcissistic sociopath in academia who had made so many enemies in and out of the institution that my job was consumed with fixing bridges and creating work arounds. The next female boss was a woman who created a thriving occupational health consultancy. She inspired loyalty with her commitment to excellence while caring deeply for her employees and clients. Sadly, she passed away in her fifties from a nasty variant of breast cancer. My last female boss is still a close friend and colleague now that I am retired. She is smart, brave, tough and compassionate and the equal of any of the good male bosses I had.

All that said, I can’t wait to learn of Jen’s next endeavor. I just hope she keeps writing and “Sey-ing everything.”

Are there any snail guys?

I put snail girl up there with 'quiet quitting.' Weird ideas that probably don't work well in the real world.

One thing women all over the world don't seem to realize is that they are working in a totally male-designed construct. This idea of "going to work" is all male, it doesn't cater to women at all. When did male design ever cater to women - one may ask. But that's all past tense now, now at least women have enough power and education to initiate something new themselves. Why are we still doing everything the male way? Why are we still using a calendar imposed by empire for example? This could be so easily transferred to a calendar that at least is in keeping with women's menstrual cycle such as the 13 moon calendar as women have 13 menstrual periods per year. Another thing is the money system. This grotesquely favors men as we can see by the greatest number of real estate holders and wealth holders. Why are women not even talking about starting an exchange system that actually makes sense so that we can all progress without all this wicked grasping and clawing? I know of two systems that are already designed, one of them I helped design and one of them a man designed but it is a system that decentralizes the issuance of money and this is what is needed. We can discuss this subject but most people women especially have very little clue about how money really works. It's not hard when you know the fundamentals but just like men, they have to complicate matters to hoodwink and make you think things have to be complicated. But complication is just a smokescreen for lower intelligence.
