Definitely a person can be called anything they want, and can legally change their name to whatever the courts currently allow (which, for the US, I assume you could name yourself Dickwad and it would be approved); so I have no problem with that- EXCEPT that a LAW is being written to ensure this… huh?!? This actually takes the rights AWAY from parents- as a child can’t change their names legally without parental consent. My daughter (who isn’t trans) had insisted her name was a specific name when she was 2. (Oddly enough, I did the same thing). She stuck with that as being her name, so eventually I enrolled her in school as that being her nickname. None of this was an issue. Her legal name, along with her nickname, was on any piece of paper that mattered. When she was 18, she legally changed it. Again, not a problem. So there does not need to be a law concerning this.

Now, with the COMPELLING part of this House Bill- no. I’m sorry, I mean FUCK NO! A person cannot even be COMPELLED to testify against themselves!!! Why would we allow a bill that would legally force anyone to speak/say anything?!?? This seems like it sows seeds of separation of children from their parents- for which no government entity truly can tear asunder.

If it’s fought, and it should be, then I hope the lawyers fighting it remind everyone of tortious interference. If you don’t know what that means, look it up. Your bond with your child is no different than your legal marriage, or any other legal contract or agreement that you have with anyone else- and nobody had the right to interfere or infringe upon that.

Lastly, don’t get me started on this hate speech ideology. 🙄😑 I am allowed to hate things. You are allowed to hate things. We are allowed to speak about what we hate.

Threatening language is different than calling someone a kook- which seems like most of the people championing this BS are, imho.

Totally agree Jen Once again you've boiled it down to basic English. Our First Amendment gives us the right to free speech. How is it possible that with a stroke of a pen, our liberal gov can overrule our first amendment? Speaking the truth "a man is a man, and a woman is a woman" isn't discrimination, no matter how much a transperson desires it to be. It's just fact. If they want to look like a woman and act like a woman, go for it- just don't infringe upon free speech rights by penalizing and threatening certain forms of expression. HB25-1312 brings us one step closer to being Cali-fornicated.

Thanks for writing up this town hall. As a Colorado business owner (and an American with Constitutional rights, like all of us), I'm horrified by this bill, too. Glad you were there. As I read your report, I was thinking what a nightmare it must be for you to have relocated from California, only to find Colorado just as bad -- and you pivoted to that very topic at the end of your post. I agree we need to fight. Thanks for being a leader. Hope the business is going well.

I continue to be impressed with you and your outspoken advocacy, Jenn. You are the Light. Colorado is the darkness. I offer this suggestion to you. Be open to relocation. You may have to . Why? To be allowed to be free , grow your business and speak your mind. Remember the caper the Colorado Supreme Court tried to pull on Trump? Just saying!

I’m so grateful that you’re helping us in this fight. As Brandi has said so many times, Colorado is worth fighting for. As I’ve said many times, I was here long before the Commies were, and I’m not going anywhere

Jennifer: it seems these big evil anti free speech and democracy movements have DEEP pockets and i have seen how it wore people down who fight against them.

I hit submit before i meant too. Was just going to say please take care of your health and life. It seems like these dark organizations try to wear people.

This is insane. Expect Nurse Ratched to show up and check if we've swallowed our meds. People need to admit, this is who the Democrats are. Yesterday in California, they voted down a proposal to keep male sexual offenders out of women's prisons.

I have a newly discovered love of our national anthem. In the chorus I recently joined, it is sung at the start of our concerts. I'm an alto, so the range of the melody has always been a stretch for me. Now that I'm singing harmony to the sopranos, supported by the pure and sincere support of the tenors and basses singing an octave below, I have to hold back the tears. What really needs to come out is what kind of indoctrination is going on in the public elementary schools, are children being taught you can easily decide to be the opposite sex and it will be "stunning and brave." To the land of the free, I sing.

Me too. I can't sing a note but I always stand and sing in my tone deaf fashion.

It would help to have a bit of additional background on this. Have any other states passed, or are attempting to pass, anything comparable? New York? California? Or is this Colorado bill really the first of its kind?

New York passed a NYS Constitutional amendment along those lines. The Legislature & Progressive Elites were afraid the law would be rescinded at some time.

It was assed using deceit and omission as to purpose and content.

But at least the NY amendment doesn't prescribe 'gender affirmation' of a child by the parents, does it?

Yes, it does.

I was not aware of the town hall. I would have loved to participate. I also didn't know that you were here with us in Colorado. I am a California transplant too, by way of 6 other states, but have lived here for 30 years. Sadly, our state has gone off the rails. I used to go to the Cherry Creek School Board meetings until my kids both graduated. I could see the direction changing from actual education to going woke. I know you are aware that the State Board of Education states that they will not adhere to the new administrations mandate of ridding our schools of DEI. They would rather have low test scores but pat themselves on the back for letting our kids be cats or trans or anything else that they think they are. Is it any surprise that our youth are experiencing ongoing mental health crisis'? They continually perpetuate it. I keep hoping that our state will "wake up". I see that Jena Griswold is now throwing her hat in the ring to be our AG in the next election. God help us!!

Eh, for all I know, Will Thomas may have legally changed his name to Lia. So I have no issue calling him Lia, and can’t understand why you’d fight that battle.

The battle that I can understand is calling HIM Lia.

When national or local authorities pass new laws that regulate the way the people must speak, and therefore think, one know for sure they live in a dictatorship.

In today's collapsing and suicidal Western world, one can be arrested, prosecuted and jailed for talking the truth, rejecting the brainwashing propaganda or praying their God. China and Russia must be having a field day.
